A picture speaks a thousand words. Which is handy actually...

Last weekend saw Rovers line up against Tottenham Hotspur lookylikes and erstwhile losers-to-Melchester, Last Minute FC. To fully relieve yet another 6-1 victory, take an hour or so to imagine the highs and lows, thrills and spills, and ins and outs which undoubtably took place, whilst using the above image as a guide to the goals and their scorers. Just like being there, isn't it? Who needs Sky+?

Same old same old

Despite another victory, Rovers remain 4th blah blah blah yaddah yaddah yaddah - basically, the reds need to just keep on winning. Tomorrow's game against Corintho Blues holds the promise of another three points, etc.

Gratuitous dodgy pic including typically unsavoury behaviour from Golban. But just whose knee is that?

Job done?

Movin' On Up...

Our heroes lining up for kick off - a sight guaranteed to strike fear into any opposition

Rovers' meeting with Domino turned out to be a walk in the park for the men in red and yeller, leaving this correspondent with little to report. With Ali setting the ball rolling with a run from his own half to score Melchester's first after 7 minutes, Golban grabbing a second a quarter of an hour later and Cyrillo making it three just before half time, this was always going to be a comfortable game for Racey's men, provided they could jump clear of some heavy duty tackles from the opposition.

Golban bonds with new signing Grødem

With another goal just after the break from Cyrillo, and a brace from winter signing Sindre Grødem - Brno's 2nd most famous Norwegian - Rovers cantered to a 6-1 victory with ease.

Through on goal with only the keeper to beat, surely Holland can't miss?
Holland's miss

An upbeat Roy Race was delighted to see his boys finally making up the positions, leapfrogging Domino and The Reds to claim 4th spot. Next up, a meeting with mid-table Last Minute - and hopefully another 3 points.

Happy Days - Here Again!

Aaaaaaaa-gaaaaaaaaaa-doo-doo-doo, push pineappple shake the tree...

Last weekend's double header provided a deluge of goals for Melchester, as almost every one of Racey's men made their mark on the scoresheet.

Friday saw Rovers take on bottom placed FCWC, and with victory almost a certainty, attention turned to Melchester's only remaining non-scorers, Messrs Holland and Mestanek. A long-standing bet between the pair meant that whoever scored first (and therefore, not last), would win ten beers from the other, and so both players were chomping at the bit to hit the (for them) uncharted territory of an opposition penalty box.

Cyrillo started the scoring after just two minutes and a steady stream of goals followed, but apart from Holland being teabagged by a 15 year old and then having a goal disallowed for bullying, at half time neither defender seemed likely to end up in the drink. But just two minutes into the second half, Holland ran onto a throw-in which he blasted home with aplomb to an ecstatic reception from a boisterous Srbska crowd.

Holland's goal and celebration owed a lot to another Paul

Determined not to be upstaged, Mestanek followed with two identical rockets into WC's bottom 90 to ensure that by the end of a record 14-1 victory every Melchester player was now a bona fide goalscorerer.

'Ave eet.

Rovers barely had time to celebrate, sleep, shower and shoeshine before they were back on the pitch against second-bottom Tripoli. And from the start it seemed Melchester were still in party mood as they conceded straight from kick off. But after rolling up of sleeves and throwing off of hairbands, Melchester set about devouring their opponents like a big lass with a pastie, losing count of the score until it was eventually announced on the BSMK website - 10-2.

Despite having played an extra game at the weekend, inexplicably Rovers find themselves still in 6th, and still with two games in hand. Logisticians, theoreticians and mathematicians are still trying to work out how that can be, but in the meantime, the easy games are over, as tomorrow Melchester face fifth placed Domino in a straight fight for position. COME ON YOU RED(and yellow)S!!!

If it's good enough for Sir Alex...

A furious Roy Race imposed a media blackout on Melchester after Sunday's 2-0 defeat to 2nd placed MOP Brno. Injury-hit Rovers struggled against strong opponents, and while all agreed the best team won, sources close to Racey suggest the mulleted icon is secretly seething that the reds were unable to convert the few excellent chances they managed to create.

One point from two games is hardly the start Rovers were looking for in their chase for 2nd place, but hopes are high that this weekend's double header will go some way to banishing their woes, as Friday evening sees Melchester finally take on bottom placed WCFC, with little time to celebrate or commiserate before the next day's meeting with 2nd bottom team Tripoli.

Having slipped to 6th, but still with games in hand, 6 points would do very nicely.

Ugly in Pink

Seems like Palermo got sick of getting beat. As the league's resident "plucky losers", Palermo were the team everyone loved to play: some good players, but never enough for a full team, which usually made for a competitive first half, followed by a second half collapse as fatigue set in. But now it seems those days are over. The worm has turned, and although he's still very pink, he's also grown a pair.

Early on, the signs were good for Rovers, as after three minutes a Nordheim shot hit both posts before falling for Pagliaro to blast into the roof of the net. Another three minutes and Palermo had equalised, with a deflection off a Palermo face that was so flukey that Rovers merely shrugged it off. However, as the half wore on and the tackles became more crunching, it became clear that the Palermo of old was no more, and battle had commenced. A Cyrillo goal after 23 minutes briefly gave Rovers some breathing space, but within 5 minutes they had conceded another equaliser, and at half time the scores stood at 2-2.

Palermo's new forwards celebrate their lucky equaliser

The second half started just as the first, with an early Melchester goal after a sweeping passing move that allowed Kimbrell to slot home, and it seemed that if Rovers could find one more goal, the game would be secure. However, Palermo eventually broke through to equalise and then almost immediately grab a fourth and the lead, and suddenly Melchester had a mountain to climb.

Matt Smith is keen to shake off his "bad-boy" image

Attack after attack led to nothing, with the pink's keeper playing a blinder, until with just 2 minutes on the clock, a clearance fell to Matt Smith on the halfway line, whose scuffed shot somehow meandered past the Palermo defence and under the keeper, entering the goal on the fourth bounce.

James Pagliaro is even keener to shake off his "limp-wristed" image

There was little more to be done, and the final whistle was greeted with relief from Rovers and anger from Palermo at one point apiece.

It never lies

That draw means Melchester drop a place to 5th, yet still with those crucial games in hand that keep them in contention for 2nd. But with current 2nd placers MOP Brno coming up this weekend, Rovers need to shake off the doziness that always seems to plague them in their first games after a break, and maybe hope MOP will be more hungover than them. It is a 10am kick off, after all.

Five unbeaten matches later, Rovers are, um, still in fourth

Despite a series of outstanding victories in recent weeks, the table does not lie. With their rivals refusing to drop points, Melchester find themselves week in, week out, failing to make it to the top.

However, there is hope. With two games in hand over the three teams above them, a potential 6 points are available - which, math(s) fan(s), puts 2nd place within Rovers' grasp. Hardly the dominant position many pundits were predicting for the reds at the start of this campaign, but at least they ain't FC WC.

Talking of which, Saturday sees Rovers take on the league's aforementioned erstwhile whipping (quite literally) boys, and with FC WC having rarely been beaten by less than double figures and an average age lower than FC Karlsberg's average IQ, a cricket score is on the cards.
